REFUGE Opening Night
Fishamble: The New Play Company and Staatstheater Mainz, in association with Pavilion Theatre and Lime Tree Theatre | Belltable, bring REFUGE by Deirdre Kinahan to Lime Tree this week for a three night run, 24th – 26th September.
To mark this special international collaboration, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, David Gill, hosted a wine reception at Lime Tree Theatre ahead of the opening night performance celebrating the cultural connections between Limerick and Germany as part of the EU Presidency programme.
The following spoke at the reception to mark the occasion: Professor Dermot Nestor, President of MIC, Prof, Dr. Gisela Holster, Centre for Irish-German Studies at the University of Limerick and The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, David Gill.
Lime Tree Theatre is thrilled to host REFUGE after its huge success in Germany.
Acclaimed director Jim Culleton (For Dolores, HEAVEN, On Blueberry Hill) leads this Irish-German co-production of a new work from renowned writer Deirdre Kinahan – REFUGE, a thrilling new play that weaves past, present and future: music and magic. Stories of longing, love and loss tear at the human need to find a place, a home, a refuge.
The production features an international cast that includes Mary Murray (Cosima, Holy Mary) and Aidan Kelly (Say Nothing, Killing Eve, Poor), with live music and composition performed by Steve Wickham (The Waterboys).
Speaking of this international collaboration director Jim Culleton said, “Fishamble is thrilled to be part of such a unique international collaboration, co-producing a play about a fascinating Irish/German story, with one of Germany’s top State Theatre companies. The model for creating theatre in Germany and Ireland is very different, so it’s been a wonderful adventure with Staatstheater Mainz so far, celebrating our shared commitment to telling stories that matter. REFUGE will play at the Lime Tree Theatre | Belltable from 24-26th September. A fitting place to start its Irish dates as the play is set in Limerick. Then it will transfer to the Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire running from 30th September-11th of October as part of Dublin Theatre Festival. Fishamble will also be hosting an event to celebrate German Unity Day on October 3rd for the matinée performance of REFUGE at the Pavilion Theatre.
