January 29th, 2024. Red Crescent volunteers receive an emergency call from Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl who is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza, pleading for rescue. Alongside her are the bodies of six members of her family. While trying to keep the terrified girl on the line, they do everything they can to despatch an ambulance, a logistical and bureaucratic quagmire that involves convincing the Israeli army to allow the rescue attempt to occur.
Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania’s wrenching and distressing dramatisation of the events, told from the point of view of the Palestine Red Crescent volunteers who took her call, incorporates the actual recordings of Hind’s voice, adding a chilling note of raw authenticity to her already urgent film.
