Kate O’Brien Hour with Rose Servitova
Presented by Limerick Literary Festival in Honour of Kate O’Brien
That Which Was and is No More is Hidden Treasure.
Rose will delve into how Kate O’Brien’s personal letters, papers and treasured photographs – preserved in the Special Collections at the University of Limerick – enable a deep, intimate and moving relationship with the late author.
Among the items Rose will touch on are memorial cards for her late aunts, photographs of the O’Brien siblings enjoying the sands of Kilkee, a list of items she brought in her handbag for her final hospital stay and the heartfelt letter from Mary O’Neill informing Kate’s family of her passing.

Rose Servitova is an acclaimed Limerick writer and creative producer. Her first three novels centre on the works of Jane Austen. Her latest novel, Íde, is currently under submission. Set in 1930s Ireland, the story follows Íde as she takes a position at “The Big House” and begins a romance that challenges societal norms, risking both condemnation from her church and rejection by her people.
With a passion for social history, heritage, and celebrating women writers, Rose has curated numerous events in Limerick that blend literature, theatre, costume, song and cuisine, the latest of which was “An Afternoon with Kate O’Brien”.
