Dave Robb & Band, The Post-Industrial Songs of Gerhard Gundermann
Dave Robb is a Scottish bouzouki player, singer/songwriter and academic, now resident in Belfast. He has recently released a new album Filling Station for Losers.
This features songs of the East German protest singer Gerhard Gundermann that Dave has translated into English. The new versions, performed in a contemporary folk-rock style with a band from Belfast, introduce Gundermann to an English-speaking audience for the first time.
A free screening Gundermann by followed by a discussion with Director Andreas Dresen takes place on Tuesday 15th April, 2pm at Belltable. Book here.
Gundermann, who died in 1998 at the age of 43, was a musician and coal miner. His songs, dealing with themes such as deindustrialisation, migration and the environment, are just as relevant today as they were in his lifetime.
