New York City police detective John McClane travels to Los Angeles on Christmas Eve to reconcile with his estranged wife at a holiday party inside the Nakatomi Plaza skyscraper,
The office celebration is violently interrupted when a heavily armed crew of criminals led by Hans Gruber seizes control of the building and takes everyone hostage under the guise of political terrorism to crack the vault.
Cut off from outside help and barefoot, McClane must use his wits, training, and grit to single-handedly dismantle the terrorists and save the hostages before time runs out.
