Blood Wedding
Federico Garcia Lorca’s Classic play, in a new version by Marina Carr | Directed by Myles Breen
Proudly presented by BA in Contemporary & Applied Theatre Studies, Mary Immaculate College
Lorca’s Blood Wedding is a Spanish tale of passion and revenge set in a tribal community joined together by violence and blood. On the day of her wedding, a bride torn between following the strict rules of her world and her desire for freedom sets in course a train of events that will bring death to the village.
Marina Carr’s adaptation of this classic play Blood Wedding retains the Spanish setting while giving the play a uniquely Irish voice. In her version, she combines the gritty realism of Lorca’s characters and reinterprets the surreal poetry of the original with her own distinctive voice.
