Bajazet
presented by Irish National Opera
In partnership with Irish Baroque Orchestra
Bajazet is an extraordinary thriller set in a tense, politically charged environment. Powerful men and strong women negotiate their relationships as desires of the heart clash with rank and duty.
In Bajazet, you’ll love the adrenalin rush of the instrumentally virtuosic vocal writing and show-stopping arias, especially if you liked the high-wire singing in INO’s Griselda in 2019.
Bajazet composed by Vivaldi is conducted by early music specialist Peter Whelan and features the acclaimed Irish Baroque Orchestra.
Italian bass-baritone Gianluca Margheri sings the title role, with mezzo-soprano Niamh O’Sullivan as Asteria and sopranos Claire Booth and Aoife Miskelly as Irene and Idaspe, with counter tenors James Laing and Eric Jurenas as Tamerlano and Andronicus. Bajazet is directed by Adele Thomas, with set and costume design by Molly O’Cathain and lighting design by Sinéad Wallace.
Bajazet is a co-production with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. After the tour in Ireland, this production will travel to the Royal Opera’s Linbury Theatre in February 2022.
