Emerging Limerick Filmmakers at Belltable Hub
Lime Tree Theatre | Belltable are thrilled to have Emerging Limerick Filmmakers using the Belltable Hub as their new base.
Members of Emerging Limerick Filmmakers wrapped filming on their latest Screen Ireland supported short film, “Imperfectus.” This was made under ELF’s ‘Scenario X’ scheme that supports the production of ambitious, short films led by young filmmakers.
“Imperfectus”, written by Clodagh Mannion, follows widowed father Elliot (Conor Dan Ryan) joining a self-help cult run by Progress (Rose Henderson) that constructs and enacts simulations of real life activities. The film was directed by Ewan Boland and brought to life by a hard-working crew of members of ELF in a mentored environment. The film was shot in the People’s Museum with some additional scenes shot in the Belltable Hub.
“Scenario X has become our flagship project,” says Artistic Director Pete Moles. “We push the boat out and our members get to work with the complicated machine that is a full film set. It’s exciting to see young people step up to a professional standard across departments, from First Assistant Director to Production Designer to Camera Trainee.” This iteration of Scenario X will also see the support of Kildare Young Filmmakers in their production “Feeding Time,” the first time the scheme has supported a production outside of Limerick.
ELF was also a recent recipient of Youth Ensemble Scheme funding from the Arts Council for ‘Afrogalypse’ an animated project directed by Fiadh Browne involving young animators from Limerick and Kerry. In addition, they will support outgoing member of ELF Lily Sheehan in the production of ‘Gríosaigh’, the first Irish language film made by ELF, whose development was supported by Coimisiún na Meán. Limerick Community Funding has also been granted to ELF through Cllr. Elisa O’Donnovan and to Youth Club funding through the LCETB. This equips the organisation to develop a slate of activity that engages members in production activities throughout the year.
“We’re so grateful to have the support of funders to support ambitious filmmaking projects led by young people,” says Pete Moles. “ELF has been going for 7 years now, which is hard to believe. We’re looking to make the organisation sustainable as our suite of projects grow. We recently relocated to the Belltable Hub which we’re very grateful for, after years in the Kilmurry Arts Centre who were also great hosts. With a base of operations, we can continue to grow as an organisation and position ELF as a key organisation for youth film production in the country.”
