The Bell Ringer
Presented by Blood in the Alley Productions
The Bell Ringer has been described as ‘a glorious, lyrical elegy to the ordinary people who once lived in the rural villages and towns of Ireland, their loves, their hopes, their dreams and their losses.’ (Irish Times).
Inspired by the tragic cinema fire in Dromcollogher in 1926, Charlie McCarthy has created an absorbing fictional story of outsider, Danjo Hartnett, the bell ringer of the title. Through him we come to know the rich panoply of characters who populate the village including Mabel, the beautiful, young American visitor who becomes Danjo’s obsession.
The Bell Ringer was rapturously received by audiences and critics alike. This hilarious and ultimately heartbreaking play is not to be missed.
