Although the Allied Forces’ final, decisive push into mainland Europe has been explored many times on film, Anthony Maras’ adaptation of David Haig’s play finds a new and unexplored angle on events leading up to D-Day.
Meteorologist Group Captain James Stagg (Andrew Scott) is appointed to lead a team of specialists reporting directly to Supreme Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower (Brendan Fraser). With Stagg’s methods and advice contradicting those of Eisenhower’s preferred man, Scott and Fraser excel at portraying these two men of such different temperament as they clash over how best to proceed when the stakes are so awesomely high.
