Laureate na nÓg Patricia Forde at Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival
Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival is delighted to welcome Laureate na nÓg Patricia Forde, Ireland’s children’s literature laureate, to our festival this week. Working with renowned illustrator Mary Murphy, Patricia will deliver a special creative writing workshop at the Lime Tree Theatre on Thursday the 2ndOctober. Patricia and Mary will work with children from Limerick’s City Centre schools, working on story, character and plot. They will work with the children to find a spark of inspiration for a story, explore how to craft and develop twisty plots and how to create brilliant characters and how to build spectacular new worlds. These workshop will be delivered in collaboration with EDNIP.
Speaking about the workshops, festival curator Liam McCarthy said ‘we are thrilled to welcome Patricia and Mary to our festival. This is a wonderful opportunity for Limerick’s young people, and I’m sure these will be exciting, fun-filled creative workshops. We are honoured to host the Laurate na nÓg in the Lime Tree Theatre. We’re really looking forward to welcoming Patricia and Mary.’
About Patricia Forde
Patricia Forde writes for all ages in Irish and in English. She has published over 20 titles, including her award-winning debut, The Wordsmith. She is a former primary school teacher and former Director of the Galway Arts Festival. In the mid-1990s, she co-founded the Baboró International Arts Festival for Children in Galway, a world-class festival based on the child’s right to culture. She is a former Chair of Children’s Books Ireland.
About Mary Murphy
Mary Murphy is an author-illustrator who specialises in colourful, bold, and simple images for younger children. She counts Dick Bruna and Tove Jansson among the authors whom she loved as a child. Mary studied Illustration and Design in Dublin, and has an Advanced Diploma in Visual Communication. She has worked in community arts projects in Guatemala, and has been published across the world. Mary lives in Dublin, Ireland.
About EDNIP
The Embracing Diversity, Nurturing Integration Project (EDNIP) is a research and intervention partnership initiative in Mary Immaculate College that works with five DEIS band 1 primary schools in Limerick city to promote and support the inclusion and integration of migrant children and families into school and community life. EDNIP is based in the Transforming Education through Dialogue (TED) Project, Curriculum Development Unit. TED is a strategic partnership between MIC, the schools, agencies and organisations of the Limerick region and beyond.
